A. Letter to Chovevei Tzion. R. Chaim Brisker, R. Chaim Berlin, R. Lazer Gordon, R. Ezriel Hildesheimer, R. Shmuel Mohilever, R. Dovid Karliner, and others. R. Yaakov Yosef. New York 1895. Extremely Rare! - Rare folded broadside, concerning two emissaries who arrived in New York in 1894 to raise funds on behalf of the Misgav Ladakh hospital in Yerusholayim. They initially received assistance from R. Yaakov Yosef and the heads of the Kollelim in New York. After a short while, however, they aroused enmity in the leaders of the Kollelim in Yerusholayim, who feared that their own funding was being threatened. The Misgav Ladakh emissaries then approached the leadership of the Chovevei Tzion for assistance. Despite R. Yaakov Yosef’s efforts to reach a compromise, the leadership of the Chovevei Tzion published letters and articles, attacking the Kollelim in the American press, as well as the European Hebrew press. Supporters of the Kollelim subsequently published this very sharp open letter, with an additional sharp open letter by R. Yosef responding to the Chovevei Tzion. With an original rabbinical stamp of R. Yaakov Yosef. 2 pp. 22 cm. Moderate-fine condition. Brown paper. Slightly torn along folds. Opening bid $200
