GINZBERG, RABBI NOCHUM BARUCH / GLIZEL, RABBI BENZION KALMAN / HOLOCAUST - Autograph letter written by R. Glizel requesting emergency financial assistance from Ezras Torah in New York. Provides the address of R. Shlomo Heiman in New York as the place to forward assistance. Dated April of 1940, the letter reports on the events unfolding in Europe. With typed addendum signed by R. Nochum Baruch Ginzberg, attesting to to the dire cicumstances, as well as the integrity of the petitioner. R. Nochum Baruch Ginzberg was amongst the most prominent Talmidei Chachomim and rabbinical figures in prewar Lithuania, and was tragically killed during the Holocaust. His Mekor Baruch is a classic volume of Talmudic novella which contains many important responsa from pre-war Lithuanian Torah greats. It was later reprinted by one of his most renowned students, R. Chaim Stein, the late Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Telz in Wickliffe, Ohio. Of particular interest as this letter arrived from Europe in the midst of the Holocaust.
