BERLIN, (NETZIV). ROSHEI BESAMIM. FIRST EDITION VILNA 1884 - Halachic responsa of R. Moshe Yoel Gurion. With library stamps of R. Naftoli Tzvi Yehuda Berlin (Netziv) as well as a signature of his son R. Meir Berlin/Bar-Ilan. The Netziv (1816–1893) was one of the greatest rabbinical figures of his era, dean of the Volozhin Yeshiva and author of several important works of rabbinic literature. His first wife was the daughter of R. Yitzchok of Volozhin, the son of R. Chaim Volozhin. His second wife was his niece, a daughter of Rabbi Yechiel Michel Epstein, the author of the Aruch Ha’Shulchan. A son from his first marriage, R. Chaim Berlin, became the Rav of Moscow, a daughter married R. Refoel Shapiro later dean of the yeshiva in Volozhin, and his son from his second marriage was R. Meir Berlin (later Bar-Ilan). The stamp reads “Naftoli Tzvi Yehuda Berlin R”M D’ K”K Volozhin”. The signature reads “Meir Berlin”. Yehuda Leib Metz press. Two title pages.176; 4 pages. 33 cm. Modern binding.
