Sefer Zikaron (memoir) of the Chasam Sofer, written when Pressburg was under siege in 1809 during the Napoleonic wars. This sefer provides a glimpse of the turbulent times in which the Chasam Sofer lived and the challenges in leading the Kehilla and Yeshiva during the siege. R. Yitzchok Blazer, known as R. Itzele Peterburger (1837-1907), was among the prominent talmidim of R. Yisrael Salanter and was actively involved in the dissemination of Mussar in the Lithuanian Yeshivos. An exceptional Talmid Chochom and great Ba’al Mussar he was appointed as Rov of St. Petersburg at the behest of R. Yisroel, a position he held between 1862-1878. In 1878, he resigned and moved to Kovno. From 1880, he headed the Kovno Kollel for a number of years. In 1904, he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel settling in Yerusholayim where he was greatly revered.
