In his introduction the author explains why the Arizal chose not to reside in Yerusholayim. R. Refoel Trivish (died 1773), was a student of R. Eliyahu HaKohen (Shevet Mussar). He was among the great Talmidei Chachomim of Izmir. He immigrated to Eretz Yisroel in 1700, settling in Yerusholayim. The CHID”A quotes him in some of his seforim with unusually warm honorifics.
