Blessing Of Jacob. Rembrandt School mid-17th Century. - The famed original painting of the “Blessing of Jacob” was painted by Govert Flinck a student of Rembrandt in 1638. This dramatic painting, based on the original scene depicts a blind Isaac bestowing on his son Jacob the coveted blessing of the first born son. Jacob is disguised to make him look “hairy” like his hunter brother Esau, while his mother Rebecca looks on. Warmly received, this painting was featured on a picture postcard in by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (#27 J. Vlieger). Oil on canvas. 54 by 44 inches. Some cracks and peeling. Antique style frame.
