R. Shayla of Kerestir. Segulah. - Embroidered tapestry of R. Shayla of Kerestir. Mid-20th century. R. Yeshaya Steiner of Kerestir (1852-1922), known as Reb Shayla, was a student of R. Tzvi Hirsh of Liska. He was orphaned from his father at the age of three and was raised in the home of R. Tzvi Hirsh of Liska. Reb Shayla was world famous for his unparalleled charity and he personally engaged in feeding the crowds, who would throng to Kerestir to bask in the light of this great Tzaddik. He was also a great miracle worker and there are countless stories related “of open miracles”. For decades it has been considered a Segulah to hang a portrait of R. Shayla and to this day his portrait hangs in many homes. Tens of thousands flock to his Kever in Kerestir, particularly on his Yahrzeit. 13 by 10 inches. Fine condition. Framed.
