Klausenberger Rebbe, R. Yekusiel Yehuda Halberstam. - R. Yekusiel Yehuda Halberstam (1905 1994), was a great grandson of the Divrei Chaim of Tzanz. Known from a young age as a genius coupled with tremendous diligence, he was famous from a young age as tremendous scholar. He served as Rabbi in Klausenberg. He personally suffered terribly during the Holocaust, incarcerated in several concentration camps. His wife and eleven children were murdered by the Nazis. Despite all his suffering, immediately following the War, he emerged as a leader in the displaced persons camps in Europe, creating a communal survivors organization called She’aris Ha’Pleitah (“the surviving remnant”), which operated religious schools for boys and girls and yeshivas for young men in nineteen different DP camps, as well as a host of religious services.
