Lazar Krestin. Portrait of a young boy. - Flawlessly executed tender portrait of a young Jewish boy with short traditional side curls. Lazar Krestin (1868-1938) was one of the most prominent students of the renowned artist Isadore Kaufman. He worked in Munich, Vienna and Odessa before going to Jerusalem in 1910 at the request of Bezalel Academy of Arts founder, Boris Schatz. In the spirit of Kaufman his paintings capture the dignity and nobility of the Jewish people in spite of the constant persecution prevalent in Eastern Europe. Oil on canvas. Signed L. Krestin in lower left hand corner. 8 by 10.5 inches. Fine condition. Antique style frame.
