Rare Letter with Blessings for Health Handwritten by the Sar HaTorah, the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky ”May Hashem strengthen [you] and heal [you] quickly, as well as the Rebbetzin; May you yet be fruitful in your old age, vigorous and fresh, and have the privilege of greeting Mashiach soon. With blessings to be inscribed and sealed for the good ... Chaim Kanievsky” Early letter, of rare length, primarily blessings for health and long life. Entirely handwritten [44 words] and signed by the gadol hador, the gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky. [Bnei Brak, 1985.] The letter was sent in the year of mourning for the Steipler, and the gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky concludes with ”הכ”מ” which is customarily added to one's father's name according to halachah in the first year after a father's passing [ה'ריני כ'פרת מ'שכבו]. It is important to note that in general, letters from the gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, especially the later ones, are characterized by their brevity, yet this letter is far more expansive that usual for Reb Chaim, apparently due to the status of the recipient, described by Reb Chaim as hagaon hamefursam, who must have been a gadol hador. Manuscripts by gedolei hadorot - not only Chassidim - have been used as tried-and-true amulets. All their manuscripts, not only blessings, such as the story told in Chut HaMeshulash about the amulet given by Rabbi Akiva Eiger without sacred names, only “In the merit of the insight I had in the Tosafot in Sukkah with respect to the clouds of glory, may he recover.”This is the case even in the generation preceding the previous generation, by the sacred Rabbi Mordcheleh of Oshmina, an old story. All the more so this letter, with explicit blessings from the writer - an indisputable gadol hador of the most recent generation, and that the letter discusses healing and long life (alongside its Torah content).
