Rare Letter from the Admo”r Rabbi Shlomo Chaim Perlow to his Son-in-Law, the Av Beit Din of Tlumach. 1929 Discussion between tzaddikim regarding the kashrut of a mikveh - sacred letter, entirely [35 lines] handwritten and signed by the Admo”r Rabbi Shlomo Chaim Perlow, on his official stationery. He was one of the leading Admo”rim of the pre-Holocaust generation. It was sent to his son-in-law, the rebbe Rabbi Yitzchak Hager, av beit din of Tlumach, may his blood be avenged, about the opinion of the latter's grandfather, the rebbe Rabbi Chaim of Antanya, regarding the topic of mikveh and rainwater. Bolchov, 1929. Rabbi Shlomo Chaim Perlow, son of the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov of Novominsk, grandson and great-grandson of the tzaddikim of Karlin-Stolin and Neshchiz, was one of the leading Admo”rim and a tremendous Torah expert in the generation before the Holocaust. His younger daughter was engaged to a grandson of the renowned rebbe Rabbi Chaim of Antanya, who was one of the gedolei hador. The addressee of this letter was the rebbe Rabbi Yitzchak Hager, av beit din of Tlumach (son of Rabbi Mendel, who passed away in his youth), who was raised by his renowned grandfather. This letter was written in 1929, to his son-in-law, during the engagement. In his letter, he requests his mechutan's - his grandfather's, Rabbi Chaim of Antanya's opinion about the kashrut of the mikveh by the above, who spoke to him personally. His grandfather's opinion was to prohibit it. The rabbi writes that in his city, the community leaders are interested in building a mikveh by drawing rainwater from a metal roof, but he does not allow it under any circumstances, due to the opinion of his mechutan, his grandfather, Rabbi Chaim of Antanya. At the same time, he asks for the source for this ruling, as he searched the poskim and did not find this stringency, and the rabbi cites sources for this halachah. He continues, pointing out that while he spoke with his grandfather, Rabbi Chaim of Antanya, his young son-in-law was also present in the room, and perhaps he recalls the discussion between them, and the source of the ruling upon which his grandfather relied. (He expounds in this letter on the Antanya Rebbe's counsel to make another bor of rainwater and create a place where this water touches the water in the mikveh, obviating the need to use rainwater drawn from the roof - but practically speaking this cannot be done in his city.)
