Proof 1975 Silver Calgary Centennial Canada Dollar $1 Grades GEM++ Proof
1975 Silver Calgary Centennial Canada Dollar $1 Grades GEM++ Proof. This silver dollar celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Calgary, Alberta. Discovered by the North West Mounted Police, its location played a key role in the development of the oil and gas industry at the end of the 19th century. The coin is struck in 23.3 grams of 37.5% silver. The Obverse design features the front of the coin you will see the younger effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with "ELIZABETH II" behind her head on the left. Elizabeth II is facing right as if she is looking at D.G Regina. The Reverse features a cowboy atop of a bucking bronco. In the background you will see a beautiful modern city skyline accompanied by oil wells. Over the cowboy you will see in big bold letters Canada Dollar. Below the horses hooves you will see in bold lettering 1875 Calgary 1975.The establishment of Fort Calgary in the Northwest was essential to the development to trade and expansion in Canada. Originally considered by the Canadian government to be a "ranching" territory due to all the free-roaming buffalo in the area, the discovery of natural resources such as gas, oil and sandstone, quickly transformed it into a trading post. With the arrival of The Canadian Pacific Railway in 1883, Calgary was further altered from a small town into a key, industrial city. This coin is a dual dated coin 1875-1975 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding.
