Jerusalem : n.d Elizabeth Anne Finn (1825-1921), fluent in Hebrew and Yiddish, was the missionary wife of James Finn, the British Consul to Jerusalem. The Finns distinguished themselves as friends and protectors of the local Jews who often lacked Ottoman or European citizenship. This artistic testimonial manuscript indicates the esteem which Finn, courteously called here in Hebrew “Misses Finn, ” was held by the pious Jews of Jerusalem. The list of signatures here are important for population records, at a time when such vital statistics barely existed in the Holy City.
