En este Sancto Officio se a tenido noticia y relación qu está en esa ciudad de México y su districto un Goncalo Barrasa, portugués, mercader y corredor de lonja que fue en esta ciudad, contra el cual en vuestra conplicidad que es sobre venido en esta Inquisición de judaísmo de esta nación portuguesa hebrea la testificación [seis] testigos de las cosas contenidas en su dichos y deposiciones que enviamos a vuestra señoría para que, aviéndolas visto y est[…] allá como se dice, provea vuestra señoría lo que fuere (en blanco) […] quier. Peru: 24th January 1637 The Inquisition of Peru notifies the Inquisition in Mexico of the sighting of a Portuguese merchant and auctioneer named Gonzalo Barraza about whom six witnesses have determined that he practices Judaism and thus should be immediately arrested. Records show that by 1641 Gonzalo Barraza was apprehended by the Inquisition and held in their detention facilities in Cartagena, Colombia. The Peruvian Inquisition stretched from 1570-1820, ceasing to exist upon the advent of the Peruvian War of Independence.
