Bushehr, or Abu Shehr, is an Iranian port on the Persian Gulf. It was here, in 1828, that Sheikh Sassoon ibn Salih, patriarch of the celebrated Sassoon Family, found refuge when forced to flee Baghdad and the tyranny of Pasha Daud. In 1832, his son, David Sassoon, embarked from Bushire to establish, what was to become, the glorious Sassoon presence in India.  See D.S.
