VALERIO, SHMUEL. Chazon LaMo’ed [commentary to the Book of Daniel, with text]. FIRST EDITION. Title within wreathed architectural arch. ff. 6, 112. Lightly stained, title rehinged, some worming. Recent boards. 4to. Vinograd, Venice 689. Venice, Giovanni di Gara, 1586. A physician in the second half of the sixteenth century, the author lived in Morea, the Peloponnese peninsula of southern Greece. The colophon here, informs us that the commentary - of a philosophical bent - was completed in 1579 in the village of Chalandrisa, “a half a day's journey from Patras.” In the introduction, the author discusses the question of authorship of the Book of Daniel, and whether Daniel is to be considered a full-fledged prophet, or a divinely inspired dreamer.
