Amsterdam, 1677: The Temple is depicted as a fortress, towering over the city walls in the foreground. Eleven sites of note are listed in the key below. A flow of travelers with laden donkeys, oxen and camels converge upon the site, reminiscent of the verse “All nations shall stream to it [the Temple]” (Isaiah 2:2). The city of Jerusalem is visible in the background.
