(GERMANY). “Wiewoln ein Edler, Ehrnvester, Fürsichtiger und weiser Rath dieser deß H. Reichs Stadt Nürnberg…” German Edict. Large printed sheet. Wide margins. Single page. Central fold and minor tear on the top of the edict, neatly taped on verso. 13 x 16.5 inches. Nürnberg, 1647.  An official edict from the Nuremberg Council forbidding Jews from pawnbroking, or other types of money-lending, as of March 18th, 1647.  The city of Nuremberg suffered under Imperial, Bavarian, and Swedish military presence as a result of the Thirty Years War (1618-48). By the end of the war it was in financial ruin. The population, which in 1620 had been over 45,000, sank to barely 25,000.
