(PHILADELPHIA). Report of the First Annual Dinner in Aid of the Hebrew Charitable Fund of Philadelphia. pp. 39. Unbound. 8vo. Singerman 1302. Philadelphia, C. Sherman, 1853.  Grace was recited by Rev Morais, followed by an address presented by Dr. Raphall, who was introduced by President Abraham Hart. After various toasts to the United States, Rev. Leeser presented an address, which included these words: “… the principle of equality is not only a name, but a reality, and that when an appeal is made for what is right and proper, Jew and Christian are alike before the law. [Great applause].”  The eighth toast was directed toward” “The Land of the Patriarchs. The hope of Israel; it shall bloom again like a fertile garden.”  The pamphlet here recounts thirteen toasts, many speeches, and concludes with seven pages listing named donations, ranging from $100 to $1, ending with by Mr. Grubb who donated ”1/2 cord wood and 1/2 ton of coal.”
