SCHNEERSOHN, YOSEF YITZCHAK. (RaYa”Tz, sixth Grand Rebbe of Lubavitch, 1880-1950). Typed Letter Signed, on thin paper with letterhead, written in Hebrew to R. Yisrael Meisel. A letter of greetings and blessings. One page. 8vo. Brooklyn, NY, Rosh Chodesh Shevat, 1945. The Frierdiker Rebbe took over his Chassidus at a time of great oppression against Judaism in the Soviet Union. In 1927, while directing clandestine activities to strengthen Torah-life, the Rebbe was arrested and summarily sentenced to death by the Soviet authorities. Due to intense international pressure he was released, upon which time he self-exiled to the Latvian capital of Riga where he resumed his outreach activities.  In 1940, after a remarkable escape from war-torn Poland, the Rebbe reached the United States where he re-established the worldwide center of Chabad-Lubavitch at 770 Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, NY.
