ASZOD, YEHUDAH.  (1796-1866).  Autograph Letter Signed, written in Yiddish, on embossed paper, personalized: “Rabbi Moshe Aszod, ” son and assistant to his father. Addressed to “Madam F. Spitzer, ” sending grateful thanks for her support. One page. Folds. 8vo. Dunaszerdahely / Niedermarkt (today, Dunajská Streda, Slovakia), 4th day of Parshath Vayeitzei, 1865. A joint letter of father, Rabbi Yehudah Aszod (the Mahar’i Aszod, 1796-1866) and son, Rabbi Moshe Aszod, personal assistant to his father. The younger rabbi writes 10 lines “in the name of his father.” Evidently the recipient was important to the elderly Mahar’i Aszod, for at the bottom of the letter he adds three lines of blessings of his own, and then signs his name. R. Yehudah Aszód was a disciple of R. Aharon Suditz and R. Mordechai Banet. He was appointed rabbi of Semnitz (Senica) and Serdahely, at the initiative of the Chasam Sofer. His works include: Responsa Mahari - Yehuda Yaaleh, Chiddushei Mahari on the Talmud, Divrei Mahari on the Torah.
