ABRAMOWITZ, CHAIM ZANVIL. Personal Silver Kiddush Cup of the Ribnitzer Rebbe. Height: Two and one-quarter inches (5.5 cm). Reverse of cup with hallmarks and engraved in Hebrew with the Rebbe’s name.  Silver Kiddish Becher Used by the Admor, the Ribnitzer Rebbe. It was the Rebbe’s custom to use this particular goblet on Shabbos morning, making kiddush from it on schnapps.  Throughout the ages, the great Chassidic Masters yearned to inherit the personal belongings of prior Tzadikim. This is attributed to the Ba'al Shem Tov, as recorded by his grandson, the Degel Machaneh Ephraim: “I heard from my grandfather… All that a man owns… even his personal possessions… are all sparks that draw from the root of his soul…”  R. Chaim Zanvil Abramowitz (1902-95), was one of the 20th-century’s great Chassidic Rabbis and considered by many as a miracle worker. He hailed from Rybnitsa (now Moldova) and was a devoted follower of R. Avrohom Matisyahu of Shtefanesht, grandson of R. Yisrael of Ruzhin. He remained in the Soviet Union living a fully Chassidic life until 1972, when he moved to Israel and then the United States.  Following his death in 1996, his grave in Rockland County, New York, is a site of pilgrimage for many thousands throughout the year.  Provenance: Genazym Auction, 30th August, 2018, lot 77.
