Naphtali Hirsch Katzenellenbogen (1712-1800) studied under R. Ya’akov Kohen Poppers of Frankfurt-on-Main and later married his daughter. Also know as Hirsch Moyses, he was appointed Av Beth Din in Mergentheim and of the communities of the Tauber and Neckar districts, holding this office until 1763, when he was elected Chief Rabbi of the Palatinate, with his seat at Leimen, which in 1768 transferred to Mannheim.
