(CHASSIDISM). (Chabad). HaKriah VehaKedusha. Monthly periodical issued by Agudas Chassidei Chabad, under the authority of the (Friediker) Lubavitcher Rebbe. Volume I - V, 61 numbers (all published), bound together in one volume. Text in Yiddish, with supplement in English (commencing from issue no. 7). Ex-library, some wear, earlier pages closely shaved and brittle. Modern boards, Folio. Sold not subject to return. Brooklyn, New York, Kehot, 1940-45. Complete set of all 61 issues of this periodical, focusing on the Torah and broader world, from the outlook of the Chabad mindset. HaKriah VehaKedusha is historically important for an insight into the very beginnings of Chabad in the United States. Publication began just as soon as the Lubavitcher Rebbe moved into 770 Eastern Parkway in time for Rosh HaShanah 1940. He had earlier found sanctuary in America, arriving from war-torn Europe in March, 1940. At this time, and throughout the five years of publication - the duration of World War II - the Rebbe (The Raya”tz, R. Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn) was insistent this was the era of “L’Alter L’Teshuva L’Alter L’Geula” (“Immediate repentance [leading to] immediate redemption.”).
