This treatise was written as a clear rejection of Maimonides’ negative, Aristotelian view of sexuality. The author writes that far from being shameful, marital intimacy can bring one to profound mystical experiences that parallel the unity of the Divine.
While uncertain who authored this text (Joseph Gikatilla?) it has been traditionally attributed to Nachmanides ever since R. Israel Elnekaveh referenced him in his mid-14th century work, Menorath HaMaor.
