Commonly known as the “Aruch LaNer” on account of his celebrated work by that name, the Author (1798-1871) was a widely respected Posek and Talmudic scholar, who stood firm against the ascendant Reform movement. He was appointed Rabbi of Altona in 1836 and served at his post until his death.
