(EGYPT). Rafael Aharon ibn Shimon.  Sha’ar Hamifkad [on Jerusalem custom in respect to Orach Chaim]. ff. (5), 154. Browned. Contemporary boards. 4to. Aleppo 1908. Rabat-born Rafael Ben-Shimon (1848–1928) immigrated as a child to the Land of Israel. He later served as secretary of his father's rabbinic court before becoming the head of the Magen David Yeshiva in Jerusalem. In 1888, he was sent back to Morocco by the Va'ad Ha'Eda HaMa'aravit (Maghreb Community Committee) as a rabbinic emissary where he founded the Dovev Sephat Yesheinim organization, whose objective was to collect scattered manuscripts of Morocco's sages and arrange for their publication. In 1891 Haham Ben-Shimon was appointed Chief Rabbi of the Cairo Jewish community, a role he was to fill for three decades. Toward the end of his life he returned to Eretz Israel.
