Engraved rococo title-page by Bernard Picart depicting putti supporting an open Torah Scroll and coronet above, with vignettes below, depicting Biblical episodes from the lives of Samuel, Moses and David. First volume with letterpress title in Spanish and Hebrew. Book of Haphtaroth with divisional engraved title by Picart. ff. (7), 446, (6).

Arthur Sebag Montefiore (1853-95), paternal great nephew of Sir Moses Montefiore, who received this book as a gift from his great uncle David Cohen Macnin.

Family Cohen ben Maknin originally stemmed from Mogador. In 1809 they were appointed "merchants of the Sultan, ” arriving in London as Minister Plenipotentiary in order to acquire military equipment for the defense of Moroccan ports.
