Yair Chaim Bacharach (1638-1702), was an outstanding German scholar with an extensive knowledge of the sciences and Kabbalah. He is known for his systematic approach to Talmudic literature and Halacha based upon his exhaustive knowledge in all branches of Jewish scholarship. The issues raised by these responsa reflect the social conditions of the Jews following the enormous upheavals as a result of the Chmielnicki massacres (Gezeirath Ta’ch veTa’t).
