A Torah luminary, renowned for his exceptional depth of knowledge and outstanding piety, R. Yitzchok Elchanon led Lithuanian and Russian Jewry for decades. His responsa and novellae were published under the titles: Be'er Yitzchak, Nachal Yitzchak and Ein Yitzchak. Berlin-based Rabbiner Dr. Oscar (Zecharia) Lipschütz (1847-1919) was the grandson of R. Yisrael Lipschütz (1782-1861) of Danzig, author of the Tiferes Yisrael commentary to the Mishnah.
