Moshe Sofer - the Chasam Sofer’s eldest son through his second marriage, to Sorel, R. Akiva Eger’s daughter. At the Chasam Sofer’s funeral in 1839, the Kesav Sofer was named as his father’s successor: Rabbi of Pressburg and director of its famous yeshiva. Through his depth of learning, piety, and charisma, the son would extend his father’s spiritual dominance of Hungarian Orthodox Jewry. His own sons in turn, were among the most prominent rabbis in Hungary, continuing the legacy of the Sofer rabbinic family.
