REINES, YITZCHAK YA’AKOV (Rabbi of Lida, founder of the Religious-Zionist Mizrachi Movement, 1839-1915). Autograph Letter Signed written in Hebrew to Menachem Ussishkin. Discusses personal matters, mentions with much respect Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Kaminetsky. Two pages. Lida, 28th M-Av, 1894. Amidst varied communal interests, R. Reines was much involved in education work. The plan he presented in his Sepher Chotem Tachnit called for a more modern method of Talmud study. His yeshiva in Lida named Torah Vodaath was the institution after which the the yeshiva in Brooklyn was named. A leader of of Chovevei Zion, Menachem Ussishkin (1863-1941) was one of the founders of BILU, the Jewish movement in Moscow that encouraged immigration and agricultural development of Eretz Israel.
