RABINOWITZ, YITZCHOK YA’AKOV. (“Reb Itzele Ponevicher, ” 1854–1919). Autograph Letter Signed, written in Hebrew. Providing assistance for “HaGaon R. Chaim Yitzchak…” and his desire to find an appropriate pulpit in Lithuania. Continues with Chidushei Torah relating to the topic of Chalitzah. Two pages, small tear at edge affecting couple letters. 1914. The Ga’on R. Yitzchak Ya’akov Rabinowitz (R. Itzele Ponivezher) was among the disciples of the Beis HaLevi and studied alongside his son, R. Chaim Soloveitchik. In 1889 R. Itzele headed the Slabodka Yeshiva before leaving to serve the rabbinate of Ponevezh where he founded its famed yeshiva. He was an intellectual giant in Torah and originated new paths in the conceptual understanding of Talmud. R. Itzele’s responsa were posthumously published under the title Zecher Yitzchak.
