KANIEVSKY, CHAIM. Autograph Letter written to Rabbi Pinchas Barzel of Kollel Nachalat Raphael, Bnei Brak. Typed letter from Rabbi Pinchas Barzel containing six queries seeking clarifications of difficulties found in: the Shulchan Aruch, Minchas Chinuch, Rashi, Rav Chaim’s Chiddushim on Masechet Arachin, the Malbim, and a Shailah concerning lateness for tefillah and alarm clocks. Clipped to the letter is R. Chaim’s autograph itemized response whose style is characteristic of his concise utility of language. Before Rav Chaim mailed the letter, he added, in another pen, a further four answers to the queries presented. One page. With original autograph envelope. Bnei Brak, 7th March (postmark), 1994. The only son of the Steipler Gaon, R. Chaim Kanievsky (1928-2022) rose to become the singularly most important rabbinic leader of the Litvak community in Israel. Universally known as the “Sar HaTorah” due to his unparalleled mastery of Torah and prolific scholarship, nonetheless, Rabbi Kanievsky sought to personally address the torrent of Halachic and related questions he daily received from petitioners across world. His to-the-point answers were legendary for their brevity.
