KANIEVSKY, YA’AKOV YISRAEL (The Steipler Gaon, 1899-1985). Autograph Letter Signed and stamped, written in Hebrew. Ya’akov Yisrael Kanievsky was known as the “Steipler Gaon” after his hometown of Hornosteipel in northern Ukraine. He briefly served as Rosh Yeshivah of the Novarhdok Yeshivah before settling in Bnei Brak where he entirely devoted himself to a life of uninterrupted study. He is renowned both for his Talmudic genius, as witnessed by the many volumes of Kehilath Ya’akov; and for his piety, with throngs seeking his blessing. He yielded enormous influence within the Torah world and yet held no official position.
