Novhardok, 2nd Tammuz, 1904. A disciple of R. Itzele of Volozhin, R. Yechiel Michel Epstein was appointed in 1874 as the Av Beth Din in Novardok, where he served until his death in 1908. With his magnum opus the Aruch HaShulchan, a unique work which combines the practical Halacha with the process of deciding Halacha itself, he became renowned as one of the great codifiers of Halacha of the 19th century.
