David Mendes Cohen was charged with challenging another officer to a duel. He is found here “not guilty.” Two pages. Unbound. 8vo. n.p., 17th October, 1863. David Mendes Cohen (1826-91) was a member of a prominent family of the 18th-19th centuries, primarily in Baltimore. Cohen had a distinguished career in the Marine Corps. He commanded the Marine detail aboard the Ariel when attacked by the CSS Alabama, in December, 1862.
