(CAMERON DRAGOONS). AUTOGRAPH LETTER. Unidentified soldier writing to his brother. Four (attached) pages. First page with Charles Magnus illustration “Panoramic view of the fortifications around Washington.” Camp Griffin, (Langley), Virginia, 10th February, 1862. Interesting content mentions the significance of the aforementioned illustration, the naval victory at Fort Henry, and almost a full page on THE COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS OF THE HEAVILY JEWISH CAMEROON DRAGONS (Fifth Pennsylvania Cavalry). The writer describes in detail the regiment going beyond the picket lines and combat with “a large party of Secesh cavalry” near Fairfax Courthouse. Noting the unit as being “very fearless, ” he records casualties, prisoners taken, and ordnance used in the fight. The writer concludes: “These Cameron Dragoons are all Germans and they are as well drilled as any in the army.”
