ROSENGARTEN, JOSEPH. CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH. Relaxed seated view in civilian attire. No photog. imprint (but likely Gutekunst). Photograph extracted from a Rosengarten Family Album. Captain Joseph Rosengarten (brother of Adolph) entered service in Company D, 121st Pennsylvania Infantry. Cited for valor at the Battle of Fredericksburg, and as a result, Rosengarten was appointed ordnance officer on the staff of General John F. Reynolds. Reynolds was the highest ranking officer to be killed at the Battle of Gettysburg. Rosengarten was given the honor of escorting Reynold’s body to Lancaster for burial.
