KLEIN, MOSES. CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH. In uniform with medal on chest. Boldly signed in brown period ink on verso: “Moses Klein, Capt. Of Co / H 22 OVI.” No photog. imprint. Captain Moses Klein (1828-1904) served in Company H, of the 22nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Initially joined the 1st Ohio Infantry and fought at the Battle of Vienna, Virginia, the world’s first railroad battle. With the 22nd Ohio Klein also fought at Fort Donelson and Corinth. On April 6, 1862 he was wounded in action at Shiloh and honorably discharged on November 11, 1864. Klein “saw the elephant” and it shows on his face. He is buried in the Hamilton United Jewish Cemetery, Fairfield, Ohio.
