Copenhagen, Philipsen, 1856. The first complete translation of the Jewish prayer-book was published in 1856, however a fire destroyed a great many copies immediately following its publication. Consequently, this second edition was issued shortly thereafter. “The father of Danish homiletics, ” Darmstadt-born Abraham Alexander Wolff (1801-91) assumed the office of Chief Rabbi of Denmark in 1829, a position he occupied until his death.
