BUBER, MARTIN. AUTOGRAPH  LETTER SIGNED, written in German to A.M. Lehmann of the Leo Baeck Institute, Nahariya. Declining an invitation to lecture: “I must save time and energy only for the work that is most important to me…” WITH: Autograph stamped envelope. One page. Jerusalem, 22nd March, 1954. Raised in Lviv (Lemberg) in the home of his grandfather Solomon Buber, Martin Buber (1878-1965) relocated to Berlin, where he created a school of thought that sought to adapt the teachings of Hassidism to the modern world (neo-Hassidism), eventually leading to the dialogic philosophy made famous in his work Ich und Du (1923). After he founded, together with Franz Rosenzweig, the Juedisches Lehrhaus, he accepted the appointment in Jerusalem of Professor of Philosophy at the Hebrew University where he remained until his death.
