Jerusalem, 4th Ellul, 1976. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was a prolific author of over seventy volumes each composed with encyclopedic knowledge across the entire expanse of rabbinic literature. He was the most influential spiritual and political Sephardic leader of his generation. His Shas Movement transformed his followers into a strongly cohesive social and political power-base in the State of Israel. Rabbi Moshe Porush (1893-1983) was secretary for Agudath Israel in Jerusalem during the British Mandate period, and editor of the Agudah’s Kol Yisrael newspaper. As a council member of the Jerusalem municipality for decades, he was a powerful and well-connected Haredi politician. His son R. Menachem Porush (1916-2010) was an influential member of the Agudath Israel delegation to the Knesset for 35 years.
