ONE OF THE FIRST YESHIVOT ESTABLISHED IN ONE OF ERETZ ISRAEL’S NEW SETTLEMENTS. With the backing of the Chofetz Chaim, R. Eliezer Ben-Tzion (Leizer) Shulevitz, a disciple of R. Yisrael Salanter, founded a Yeshiva in 1883 in Łomża, Poland. R. Yechiel Mordchai Gordon was appointed Rosh Yeshiva and R. Moshe Rosenstein served as the Mashgiach. It soon became a model for similar such Yeshivos across Poland and beyond. In 1926, Lomza took the pioneering step of opening a branch of the Yeshiva in Eretz Israel. R. Reuven Katz, Chief Rabbi of the new settlement of Petach Tikva, served as Rosh Yeshiva. The Yeshiva was inaugurated in 1930 in Petach Tikva in a building on Herzl Street, from where it continues to operate to this day. In order to financially support his two yeshivos in both Poland and Palestine, Rabbi Gordon traveled throughout the world to collect funds. This is reflected in the present Record-Book. THE YESHIVA IN PETACH TIKVA BECAME “THE PREMIER INSTITUTION OF TORAH LEARNING IN THE LAND OF ISRAEL IN THE COMING DECADES.” A brief list of notable early alumni of the yeshiva reflects this: R. Meir Tzvi Bergman of Kollel Rashbi, R. Gershon Edelstein of Ponevezh, R. Chaim Kanievsky the Sa’ar HaTorah, R. Yissachar Meir of Yeshivat HaNegev, R. Shmuel Rozovsky of Ponevezh, R.
