Lincoln President” below; portrait within floral frame based upon the 1860 Cooper Union photograph. Signed: S. Chèvre and Isaac Dreyfus Sons, Basle. Fine condition with few negligible stains/tears that little detract. Not examined out of recent frame. 9 x 4.5 inches. Basel, Switzerland 1861. Honoring Abraham Lincoln’s first inauguration, the President was clearly admired by this prominent Swiss Jewish family. Alsatian-born Isaac Dreyfus (1786-1845) settled in Basle where he was one of very few Jews permitted to reside within the walls of the city.
