Born in Philadelphia, Henry Samuel Morais (1860-1935) received his religious instruction from his father, Rabbi Sabato Morais, the founder of the Jewish Theological Seminary. Henry Morais served as acting minister of the Congregation Mikveh Israel in Philadelphia and later as minister of the Adath Yeshurun congregation, Syracuse, New York, and of the Jeshuat Israel congregation at Newport, Rhode Island.
