Rare, detailed report of the assistance provided to Jews in transit in England on their way to America. Following the assassination of Czar Alexander II, pogroms broke out so violent, huge number of Jews fled Russia seeking safety elsewhere, especially in the United States. On their way to America, these refugees found themselves in transit in the port of Liverpool, England. Through the Jewish-run Mansion House Relief Fund these Russian Jews were fed, clothed and housed until their passage to America was ready. The report here includes a letter from one of the refugees (translated from Hebrew) thanking the committee for the extensive assistance received during their journey to America, including the provision of Kosher food and the meeting of all their needs -including funds for railway fares to their new homes across the expanse of America.
