LOEB, SIGMUND. Document signed by regimental commander and First Lieutenant Sigmund Loeb at Fort Federal Hill as Adjutant of the regiment. Promoting John O’Conner to be a sergeant in the 7th New York Heavy Artillery. Loeb’s signature huge and bold: “S. Loeb / 1st Lieut”. Document in original large (18” x 13”) fancy carved wooden frame of the period. (Baltimore), 18th June, 1865 Bavarian-born Sigmund Loeb (aka Loeb, 1838-1908) enlisted as a private in Battery L, 2nd US Artillery at Fort Snelling, Minnesota in 1857. In 1861 he served in the First US Artillery and later joined the Seventh New York Heavy Artillery where he rose in rank to first lieutenant.
