(THEATER). CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH  of Rachel Felix, French Jewish tragedienne. Photog: Allen & Horton, Boston. Popularly known simply as “Rachel, ” Racel Felix (1821-58) was an internationally celebrated actress. She is here depicted in her role as Phaedra. Likely issued to coincide with her performances in Boston. A Swiss-born Jewess, Rachel became the mistress of, among others, Napoleon III and Prince Napoléon. She is buried in a mausoleum in the Jewish part of Père Lachaise Cemetery. Photograph based upon the painting by Édouard Dubufe. Formerly in the Collection of the late Alfred Rubens of London, presently housed in a New York private collection.
