STERNBERG, THEODORE. CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH. Directly faces camera. “US” within wreath cap insignia. Signed in brown period ink: “Yours for the War / Theo Sternberg / AQM 121st NY.” Photog: DeLong and Robie’s, Cooperstown, NY. Regimental Quartermaster 121st New York Infantry. Served from August 18, 1862 to June 25, 1865. Saw initial action at Antietam and then at the Battle of Fredericksburg in December 1862. Spent the winter of 1862-63 in camp at White Oak Church, across the Rappahannock River from Fredericksburg, where he was promoted to quartermaster on 1 February 1863. After the war he became a lawyer moving to Kansas, and later served in the Spanish-American War as a major. (See also Lot 67).
